Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.
The player's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was over.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a third set.
He defended four early-game chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
