Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
